Terrorists create impacts that make people feel bad. They try to run down governments and also try to project their ideologies.
Nigeria isn’t the first nation that has been besieged with terror attacks. Countries like United States of America and Great Britain fight terrorism but they have strategies to contain it.
Since 2009, there hasn’t been peace in the North Eastern part of Nigeria as it’s supposed to be. And, the internet is breaking with disturbing images and videos.
It’s quite disturbing and shameful that after several years of attempts to neutralize boko haram terrorist group they could still inflict casualties on the Nigerian state.
We’re faced with a “civil war” situation not insurgency. Nigeria has to involve a proper strategy to fight insurgency. Strategies that would succeed years to come.
Because………,
Without security and peace, we can’t have growth and development. Fighting terrorism or insurgency is one big task that everyone has to partake in.
Individuals, religious leaders, traditional rulers, paramilitary, the armed forces and police all have a role to play. It is a collective responsibility of all Nigerians.
Do we all play our role?
In the past few months, husbands, fathers, sons, bread winners, family friends, neighbours have died. Men that served our nation in uniform.
Individuals willing to do whatever it takes to defend our country. Soldiers who faced the bullet and took it with courage. Some of them were brutally murdered and burnt!.
They will never again get to see hugs, smiles or get to say anything to their families…..ever again!!.
This is tough!. These men fought for their families, country and humanity itself!. They fought for our freedom and hoped they would carry the day.
What then led to their capture?
Why would a bunch of civilians confront trained soldiers…… AN ARMY?
And, How have these civilians been able to attack and inflict casualties?
Questions…Questions…Questions???
According to Hon. Umar Yakubu over the news, he said;
“To kidnap means they have a place where they can gather, sit, plan and yet, our intelligence couldn’t detect them?”
For boko haram to ambush, attack or kidnap, they have intelligence!.
Is the responsible body(s) gathering the right intelligence?
Our intelligence has to be functional in order to deliver value.
Wait a second……isn’t there a way that citizens can be secured, make less attractive and difficult to capture?
I have lost relatives (siblings, brutally murdered in one night), friends…..close pals. Oh!, I’m writing this with a heavy heart!.
Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic have been able to hold their grounds. This means there’s something they are doing right.
Nigeria should have a defined arrangement with them. It’s been speculated that often times, these terrorists move into our country for an attack from our bordered countries.
Therefore, there should be adequate border policing and security in order to monitor egress and ingress.
Furthermore, we should think of what lure people to these groups and how they have been able to indoctrinate their foot soldiers.
Could it be ignorance or poverty?
Those are some of the questions we should ask ourselves. The National Orientation Agency should have proper sensitization programs that can push back ideologies. This will create a leverage from which we go further to degrade terrorists groups in our nation.
Do you know that with each successful attack against the military, widows and orphans are being created?….Loved ones would never be seen again?
This brings to mind the question that’s always on my mind as to what’s in it for the soldiers dependants (wives and children).
Military spouses face many challenges, so it would be nice to have benefits to balance the scale.
In my next post, I’m going to list some amazing benefits that military spouses enjoy in most countries.
Beautiful post, my dear. To reprise the attack from terrorists, higher intelligence than theirs must be required.
Soldiers spouse and kids should benefit from the government as they are also part of the reprisal attack against insurgency and they at the same time, to some extent, contribute positively or negatively to the progress of the fight against insurgency.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read.
You are always inspiring
