Kidnapping is a historic issue in Nigeria. Killings and kidnappings has assumed an alarming dimension in Nigeria. The value system we have now especially in metropolitan cities is way below average. It has completely diminished. To some, human life means nothing now.
Poverty, unemployment, ignorance and desperation to be wealthy has pushed most people into criminality.
Desperate people are easily gullible. Most people are ready to do anything for money. These ungodly acts has made so many people lose their sense of reasoning. People now do whatever it takes to make money. Some people kill even someone dear to them for rituals and still feel comfortable with it. Are they normal at all?.
When would people stop to believe that human parts can make money?. You have to work hard to make money!.
Nowadays, people try to make it by all means. Most people tend to break their circle of poverty through kidnappings and ritual killings…….Oh, my heart bleeds!.
Sponsors of such despicable crimes take advantage of the poverty in the society to initiate these crimes. They take advantage of the inadequacy of the people they send to commit these crimes. Those sent to commit these dastardly acts are usually desperate people. In most cases, there are people that are still comfortable that would still do it…….the greedy and wicked. Those who are never contented with what they have. Whichever it is, it is not justifiable.
Issues relating to kidnapping and ritual killing can be reduced with governmental involvement.
ROLE OF THE GOVERNMENT
Absolute poverty drives crime in any society but that does not excuse criminals. The greatest threat to peace and order in any society is a man that has no stake in it. In a country where the approved minimum wage is 30, 000 naira yet there’s a hike in fees of students in higher institutions, parents would be in a hopeless situation. Such parents would not have a stake in the country. When parents can’t afford to send their wards to school, such kids may become threats to the society. Their parents may lose control over them. Opportunities would be open for the kids to go into crime (cultism, armed robbery, political thuggery, kidnapping etc) due to poverty.
Poverty must be reduced. It is a propelling force that pushes people towards crime. Needs of the people should not be completely eroded. It is paramount that the needs of the people are taken care of. Government should better the economy, create employment opportunities and an enabling environment for the private sector and entrepreneurs to thrive. Unemployed youths often turn to crime to make money. When people are gainfully employed, crime rate would be reduced.
LAW ENFORCEMENT
There should be more law enforcement vigilance to curb these crimes. Also, there should be better law enforcement in terms of equipment and training. Perpetrators and all their accomplices should be dealt with accordingly. The justice system must hold the criminals accountable so that society can also fix itself.
Let us all be law abiding citizens.
The value system is in shambles. Growing up, parents usually ostracise a son/daughter that brings back wealth from a questionable source. Then I’ve seen fathers automatically disown such child with some even laying a curse in addition to that. These days the parents do not care. They are happy to see their 20-year-old child with no work come back driving a Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV with cost price triple their parent’s annual salary all put together. No one questions the sources of wealth these days. Even the religious leaders are not helping matter as there are more prosperity preachers whose stock in trade is to preach of millions of naira windfall often tagged “unmerited favours.” We all know that religion is the opium of the masses, so people easily take whatever their religious leaders tell them as the absolute truth. I’m in no way exonerating the government, but the family values and ethics is almost non-existent which may invariably be traced to the government’s lacklustre attitudes to their citizenry. The end now justifies the means. Those in government engage in brazen looting of our treasures and have people who openly support the thievery as they are beneficiaries of it. I am almost a pessimist when it comes to whether the crimes committed in Nigeria will ever lessen, I see it as something that will get worse as desperate youths with zero parental guidance are unleashed to the society that only values wealth no matter how it is earned!
I agree with you.
The heart of men is full of evil but GOD will always save HIS children
